why do I need an eye cream?
The skin around the eyes, especial the eye lid and under eye, notably thinner compared to other facial areas, with a lower concentration of sebaceous glands and collagen fibres. Consequently, it is more prone to dehydration, fine lines, and wrinkles. In addition, the continuous movement of facial expressions, coupled with the frequent blinking and squinting, exacerbates the risk of premature aging and the formation of dynamic wrinkles formed by the lower quality or quantity of collagen connections in this area.
Due to the thinness of the skin, the eye area is also susceptible to fluid retention and, due to a reduced level of lymph nodes, puffiness. Puffy under eyes are increased due to lack of sleep or sleeping face down, which causes fluid to pool under the eye. This fluid is known as interstitial fluid and gives rise to the appearance of dark circles and under-eye bags.
Typically lighter products that are more readily absorbed and have fewer emulsifiers and oils are better tolerated that this thinner skin area with less effort to rub in avoiding any micro damage to this delicate eye area.
Products that aid in improving the skin barrier (ceramides or oils rich in essential fatty acids), increasing collagen synthesis (bakuchiol, retinoids and Vitamin C) and increasing the circulation or drainage system (Persian silk tree, caffeine) can all aid in improving the quality and appearance of the eye area.
